“When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams — this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness! And maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!”
There are few things I’m truly convinced of—I believe, anymore. And most, if not all, have nothing to do with this world.
I believe there to be only one truth, but that everyone has their own unique experience of, and relationship to, it.
I believe there to be only one way, but all will be found by it sooner or later.
I believe there to be only one light, but it more often than not takes darkness to see it.
I believe there to be only one life, but it takes you dying to live it.
See, the thing is, it’s not at all about what “should be,” but what really is.
Aldonza shouldn’t be Dulcinea, she IS Dulcinea. She just doesn’t see it. Or maybe just doesn’t believe it yet. Like Peter Banning in the 1991 film, Hook. He doesn’t need to become Peter Pan, he is Peter Pan. He needs to forget he’s Peter Banning. Or maybe accept that he’s both.
To see life as it should be is to see it as it truly is, not what it and we and you and I are told it is. It’s to see the reality behind, or perhaps within, the illusion.
The knight behind, or perhaps within, the madman.
The princess behind, or perhaps within, the whore.
The Kingdom Come, that is quite literally “at hand”-here and now and within reach. Like the banquet and food also in the 1991 film, Hook.
To see what’s behind the carpenter.
To search for what’s behind the lie we’re told. What we believe to be real.
To see that what should be is what truly is and that is why it should be!
It is to know that none of us are broken, but even if we are, perhaps that’s part of the larger story, our larger story. So it’s not the end of the story. But rather, we are all, all of us, incomplete. Lacking. And that isn’t a personal failing on any of our parts. It’s simply an ontological characteristic of the human condition. I’ve come to refer to this philosophical concept as: ateleology. But what it means is that we’re always being completed. Always growing. Always becoming. And if we can see that, then we can see the beauty in it. The beauty in ourselves. It means we can always do better. But it means we’re also amazing right here and now. It’s an impetus to connect, to reveal, to not hide away but to be vulnerable and authentic. Because we are not broken or bad. We are still becoming. And always will be.
What make me a madman?
Probably because I dream. I dream something many call an impossible dream. That is just how better the world will be if I can truly convey how valuable you are. How much you matter. How desperately I want to see you exist and keep existing. Sing your song out loud and know you have some idiot (me) in your corner while you do so.
You are not broken. You’re just incomplete.
You have far more worth than you could ever possibly imagine.
Your life matters far beyond what you could ever possibly know.
And I would love for you to see it. And after that? Help me spread the world. Help me dream the impossible dream. Connect with me. Follow me across the platforms I’m actively creating content on.
